I hope everyone has had an enjoyable week.
As you know, here at Kent Heights we try to do what we can to help others in need. In the spirit of helping others we have partnered with Silver Spring to help a school in need. Please read below. Any help will go a long way.
Help Rebuild Oak Forest Elementary School!
The Kent Heights PTA and Silver Spring PTC have teamed up to collect glue sticks, crayons, pencils and other school supplies for an elementary school in Texas. Oak Forest Elementary was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey, and now that the students have been relocated, they’re starting from scratch. There are 750 students enrolled at the school, so it is a big task. This supply drive will end on Friday, September 29 so we can get the items sent out ASAP. We appreciate anything you might be able to send in to help support these students!
Please check the link to the newly approved Elementary School Handbook located on the right side of the page. If you would like a hard copy, please contact Mrs. Bentz's in the main office.
Pease check out the many Rec Department programs going on this fall.

Happy New Year All!!!
We are 3 weeks into the New Year and the second quarter is quickly coming to an end on January 25th. This year is flying by.
We have a number of exciting things going on as we head into the 3rd quarter...
We have just completed Kindergarten's first use of the IReady program. We will use this information to provide specifically targeted interventions and enrichments opportunities for your children. We are also getting ready to begin the mid year assessment for students in grades 1-5. This will provide us with more detailed information regarding your child's progress, strength's and needs. More information will follow regarding the IReady program and the data collected on your child's academic progress once we have completed the assessments.
Last Friday we held professional development for the 3-5 grade teachers regarding goggle classroom. As we increase access to technology for students you can expect some very exciting learning opportunities for your child. More information will follow.
We also have two more professional development opportunities planned for teachers this month; writing on Monday, January 23 and math practices on Wednesday, January 25. It has been a very busy month and we will continue to work to improve our practice to ensure that your child receives the best possible education. I think its important to note that these opportunities were planned using the IReady Data, Classroom Assessments and PARCC data.
Our before school Math and STEM Clubs are in full swing. I am always amazed to see our students so excited to be here an hour before school starts.
Other activities that have begun or will begin very soon: Chance to Dance, Girls on the Run and Jump Rope for Heart.
Survey Works is back. For those who are not familiar with Survey Works, this is an informational survey that parents, teachers and students complete. This survey is sponsored by RIDE and provides the school with important information that will help us improve and meet the needs of our school community. More information will follow.
Below you will find a few links to important information regarding January programs at the library, substitute teaching positions and Kindergarten registration.
