East Providence plan to create K-12 curricula aligned to the Common Core:
- Partnership with Pawtucket School Department, Dana Center, and WestEd to write ELA Curriculum – two year project 2011-2012 and 2012-2013
- Partnership with Middletown School Department to align Mathematics to CC – Mondays for 1st semester 2011-2012 (see calendar)

East Providence has hired two full-time (Kim Laliberte and Sandy Forand) and three part-time (John Gendron, Teresa Medeiros, and Kathy Caffrey) Master Mentor Evaluators (MME) for 2011-2012 to assist with training and evaluating teaching staff.
Guidance, Secondary librarians, Special Education, Psychologists, Social Workers, LEAs, OT, PT, and Speech will not be evaluated with the new system until 2012.

Support System IV: Induction and Mentoring
Still in development phase – RI is aligning to New Teacher Project
- New teachers receive 11 days of required embedded mentoring
- New hires will apply for a probationary certification
- Professional certificates will be earned after the mentoring program is completed
- Coaches will be full release “coaches” for 2-4 years
- Coaching will take place for at least 90 minutes weekly
- Through embedded in class observations student data will be utilized to plan and improve instruction – not evaluative
East Providence will release Crystal Monteiro to serve as an Induction Coach to all East Bay districts. Tabitha Watjen will be released part-time to serve secondary East Providence teachers. They have both received intensive training from the New Teacher Project and are ready to help new teachers.
Support System V: Turn around schools
East Providence does not have any “failing schools” (five+ years not meeting AYP)
EPHS have not met AYP 3 years
By 2015:
A. 90% of Rhode Island students entering the fourth grade (EP 64%) and eighth grade (EP 65%) will be proficient in reading
B. 90% of students entering fourth grade (EP 59%) and 75% of students entering eighth grade (EP 53%) will be proficient in mathematics
C. The achievement gap will be cut in half (Black, Hispanic, Poor, and IEP)
D. 85% of students will graduate from high school (EP 74%)
E. 77% of students will enroll in postsecondary education within two years of graduating from high school (EP 69%)
F. 90% of students who enroll in postsecondary education will complete their first year (EP 78%)

East Providence will be a gradual implementation district. That means
all teachers will be evaluated once formally (1 period - 50 minutes)
and once informally (10-15 minutes) next year. Additionally, teachers
will write one professional goal and one student learning goal.
Administrators, MMEs, and department heads will be well trained in the
new model.
We are looking for volunteers to be on the district evaluation team.
